Ok, Last year I killed the biggest 8 Pt, small basket 8. 145 lbs.had this one mounted. this year Oct 25th, shot even a bigger 8 pt,155 lbs, already taken him to the taxidermy guy. Today I killed a 165 lb 10 point, Nice mass, almost perfect symmetrical rack. at $350.00 for a mount can't really afford to do both. Opinions gladly appreciated.

Simple for me...Which one scores highest boone and crocket?? Id go that way....Actually I'd find a way to do both but if thats not possible that would be my deciding factor.

If you have to choose that 10 Pt is a beautiful deer with the symmetry and mass. That's the one I'd choose. Nice buck.

This is a great problem to have.... I agree with Skirtchaser, I would find a way to do both.....Work with your taxidermy guy about setting you monthly payments for the next 12 months... $60 per month.it will probably take him long to complete both of them anyway.....

I dabble once in a while with taxidermy. The skull mounts are nice if you can't do a shoulder mount on both... there's also a new reproduction skull kit that makes this a DIY project in an hour or less (Mountain Mike's reproductions)

If you know you want to do both but not at the same time, a word of advice: 1)salt the cape real good with pickling salt (non-iodized) if its gonna be a few months- this helps set the hair in place and will help some with freezer burn.
2) bag up the cape but get as much air out as possible- freezer burn is bad on the ears and any part with cartilidge when you are turning it out.

You may also be able to find a taxidermist that will tan the cape for you and prepare it for mounting but hold off on mounting until you are ready. Once the hide is tanned, you can wait as long as you want.
