This last weekend I was invited on a hunt for wounded warriors up in Caldwell, NC. First off, the people from Caldwell are some pretty amazing people. The kindness and hospitality were awesome!
Being that I've shot a few deer in my life I wanted to take advantage of this hunt to take my daughter with hopes of her getting her first deer. Last year on this hunt they had 12 hunters and shot just under 50 deer so i figured we should have some good luck. Went up Thursday morning for the first part of the hunt that was set for Thursday evening after a meet and greet. Got in the stand about 1500. First deer, a buttonbuck, came out about 1615. We watched him for a while hoping to have his mom or dad come out. After 20mins with no such luck I asked D if she wanted to take him, she of course said yes. Unfortunately, she pulled it high and we watched him walk off slowly. She took it well and went back to playing her little video game thing. Not 15mins later, out steps a deer...a buck! He was way out on the other side of the field so we took our time and got D all set up. He was facing us so we had to wait for him to turn. A few minutes later he turned to his right and I said "when he stops, take him." He stopped and she shot....he bucked up and took off. He slowed down pretty quick as he hit the wood line and I could see him floppin' around about 20m in. Didn't flop long and I knew we were good. We got down and went to check him out. There he was, 20m in the wood line, dead as could be! She was all sorts of excited and I was all sorts of proud!! She made a PERFECT shot, 183yrds right behind the shoulder, took out both lungs. That's my girl!

We saw 4 more deer over the day on Friday and Sat morning, all fawns. Did have 10 turkey come out Sat morning so that was good for her to see. It was just an awesome weekend all the way around with some awesome folks! Now my parents are in town and we're going to work on her second deer and her younger sister's first! Been a great month in the woods!!

One of the other guys shot the coyote but we thought it'd be a cool pick.
