October 25, Decided to go sit in a tree and maybe beat the storms that were rolling in and maybe see one of three nice 8's I have on film, about 3:30 pm driving to the farm had noticed a nice bodied deer on the side of the road next to where I'm hunting, closer look reveled it to be one of the big 8's, what a shame. the only other hunter with in many miles of my stand !!!! HWY 17 claimed another. Got dressed and headed for the tree. 4:05 pm, just sat down, rattled a little grunted a few times as while walking in jumped something up, thinking just maybe it would think I was one of them. started to text a friend about the Big 8 on the hwy, hit the send on the iphone looked up and there is #2 Tall tine. 35/40 yards, took the shot at 4:13 pm. ran 30 yards and crashed. the storm came and dumped 1/2 inch of rain in 30 minutes or less. my biggest deer to date.Yes he's going on the wall. The first pic I first thought he had drop tines, turned out to be velvet shed. this one was killed on the HWY.

Can anyone explain the Black Face. I've been told its called a deep swamp deer.

Me thinks they like the corn pile. Nice Buck. Color in deer it like skin color in snakes, other animals, and people. Many variations. I once saw an almost black deer in swamps in Halifax County NC. Wish I could have gotten a shot at it.

Great Deer,
Wayne
