Just pulled up the link. They weren't colored like the picture in the link. They were a drab grey color all over. No bands or stripes. Might be it tho. Thanks
Looks like a blue runner to me.
The ole Horse Eye Jack, thanks for sharing.
I don't know what it is but is definitely not an Almaco.
Almacos are typically a very dark brown color. Darker than an Amberjack.
Definitely not a blue runner I've caught a few of them. Horse eye looks pretty close that may be it. I saw some in the tank at bps in Myrtle Beach but no one there knew what they were.. I would have thought they were jack crevelle but they didn't have any yellow at all. Looking like it might be horse eye. Thanks for the help
I pulled some pictures for comparison. I still say he looks more like a blue runner than a horse eye jack. But I'm no fish expert. I just look at pictures on the internet. The top fish is yours, middle fish is a blue runner and the bottom fish is a horse eye jack.
I think its a blue runner
Ive caught lots of them in florida off piers with sibiki rigs and a few in NC out around weather bouys
Really nice photo job LWR. Thanks.
I stand corrected. The bony laterals near the tail were throwing me off. :wtg:
100% blue runner. The head alone gives it away in seconds that its not a horse eye kack. The horse eye jacks head has a much more pronounced drop or downward slope on top. the blue runners head is more of a gradual even drop to the mouth. Almost like a football.

I thought the blue runners in had caught before were more colorful but the pic is dead on. We caught a bunch of them that day. Are they good to eat? Thanks for all the info guys.
never cared for blue runner meat, too bloody and soft
