Caught this out of Beaufort Inlet this past weekend. I have never seen one before so we put it back to live another day. Looks like a Queen Cobia? atlantic_fishing_july_2013_9__copy_640x433_433.jpg

We released it because we didn't know what it was. Now I hear they might be good to eat.

rainbow runners are excellent sautéed in butter with a little salt and pepper

We know if there is a next time. Are they common to this area? Has anyone else caught one? My son was upset when I told him to release it but we only keep fish we are going to eat.

Good call on putting it back if uncertain. I'd have done the same thing. And I have never caught one before either. Been fishing about 55 years now. You just never know. Thats what makes saltwater fishing so much fun.

Had to pull out my "sport fish of the Atlantic" book.... would have never figured that to be in the jack family. I would have got sea sick three times over trying to find it in that book if I'd had caught it.
I would have thrown it back as well... good call.... and cool catch too!!
