Hey folks,
I'm a recent transplant to the NC area, having relocated in January from Oklahoma. I'm up in the Fort Bragg area.
To call me an avid fisherman is an understatement, but I've never really had the opportunity to do much saltwater fishing; just a few charters here and there around the world, but nothing compares to it... going back to Oklahoma and fishing for bass and catfish doesnt have the same excitement factor as bluewater trolling or deep water jigging...
So, getting to the point:
I'm about to get serious on this whole saltwater fishing business. I was planning on a drive down to Wilmington either tomorrow (Sat, 16th) or on Sunday. I have a few items on the "to grab" list and then I was thinking of doing a little surf fishing off CB or a pier, or potentially hooking up with a group on an open boat trip.
I would love to get together with anyone on the forums if you have an open seat on a boat, particularly for something off shore. I will of course cover my share of expenses and can even buy some grub once we get back to shore if you don't mind teaching the new guy a few tips and tricks while we're out on the water.
Honestly, wouldn't mind meeting up with anybody doing any kinda fishing over the weekend, even if its just hanging out on the beach and doing some surf fishing.
Aside from training/deployments and stuff, my normal day to day schedule is fairly flexible so if you ever need a seat filled on a trip, PM me and I'll see if I can tag along!
Hope to hear from some folks, but regardless - Stay safe and good fishing!
-Scott
Welcome to NC and the finest fishing this GA boy has ever been able to experience. Surf fishing this time of year is slow, aside from small sharks and the occasional red. Check out militaryappreciationday.org, this is an awesome event. The fishing is one thing, but the people you will meet are the ticket. They range from retired/former military, out of towners travelling just to support the troops, and the awesome locals that live and breath salt water. They have people up and down the coast always on a hot bite and ready to get military guys on the water. If ever there was a place to be stationed, ENC is it man. Between the bbq, fishing, and people you wont be able to find anything like it.
Just read my post, kinda got on a MAD speech. This site is full of information in surf, inshore, nearshore, and offshore fishing. Didn't mean to come off like this was not the place to ask question, trust me its loaded with just about everything you can imagine. This site will get you spun up on local flavor of fishing better than any other site, and keep you awake at night waiting on the weather be right.
To the folks running FPT and keeping the reports coming, thanks for all you guys do. This site really helps us military guys make the most out of our time on or near the water. When you only get a weekend shot once every month or so, its nice to know the knowledge is available to make the trip safe and productive.
It maybe be a bad weekend to try much of anything unless you can grab a inshore guy. The weather hasn't been on our sides too much as of late. You will find some great knowledge from this site. Of lot of times to jump in with some folks as well just keep a check on the posts and you will see when the guys ask for some extras. Good luck this weekend if you decide to venture around.
Welcome to the site! All sorts of folks looking for extra crew for offshore trips. Tag along with an old salt and you'll learn lots real fast. There's always something to catch no matter thes season, but offhsore will get real hot once May hits. Grouper season opens and the Mahi show at the stream. Good luck to you.
