If anybody's thinking about running out of Beaufort, the bride and I are wanting to do an overnighter targeting swords on our boat but not going it alone. Be nice to get 3 boats to team up.

I'm So Ready ... I'm So Ready ... I'm So Ready ... I'm So Ready ... I'm So Ready ...!!!!

So let's make a list of Boaters and Non-Boaters so that we can fill the boats that are wanting to GO...

I know that I will be willing to go along with a buddy of mine ... Mitch

And a big ass fish bag Eek

I've got a fish box over 6' long on my boat.

I'd like to get in on this trip also, don't mind taking my boat. Have read some on the techniques for daytime and night time sword fishing, just never been. Even have a couple of big floats that light up that I made just for night time sword fishing.

6' ain't nothing for a sword when you count the bill. Legal length is 47" LJFL, then the bill is ~1/3 of the body length so a barely legal fish is over 5 feet long. Insulated blankets like is used for bluefins are your best bet.

I have to admit I've been watching this thread since the beginning. I would be willing and able to take my boat if the date is right. We fish out of masonboro.

Haha you can't just set a date for an overnight trip, unless you have a big sporty. Just have to be ready and wait for the right weather window, which hopefully we will get some soon. I'm tired of this wind blowing and rough seas.

I have made numerous trips on our boat others off south florida and the keys both nighttime and daytime. I do have all the right set ups for both style and terminal gear. P.s. Swords have a highly developed sense of smell in comparison to other bony fishes. and very soft mouths. Email or pm me and I would be happy to go over details. We will be doing some nighttime here out of BFT this year. I a pm not as convinced of the daytime here, nor are some of the commercial sword boats I know here.

My thoughts, for what it's worth, that once these fish move up the stream through the summer is that the majority of the action would be a night time affair. Not to say daytime is a waste.

Set the proper drift and I bet we get a shot at them. Plus, we can chunk all night an possibly get some tuna, wahoo and Makos in the slick.

May as well go all in....

Let me know and I'll gladly jump aboard and give it hell.

P.S. flying gaff and tail ropes....must have. I've seen swords take a 4" chuck out of a transom once, that bill is very sharp and dangerous. This isn't your normal fishing. They're big and mean.

wjdiller: You, sir are absolutely correct with their mouths. Very easy to pull a hook if you place too much pressure on them. Slow and Steady is how we learned. I have a pic I will try to post of a 260 class Sword I caught a few years ago up North. BEAST!! Got him on a large live squit witha green stick 10 ft above the bait. 20 OZ on a rubber band for brekaway purposes. Basic set up, clean and solid. I believe we used 250LB leader with a 10/0 tuna hook double crimped and tucked away inside the squid. We also used to dress the squid with a rubber skirt, this helped keep the hook seated covertly.

I've always wanted to go and have the boat and tackle to do it, just need somebody who has more than a WAG regarding proper area and methods.

I've got enough fuel to spend a few days out there and a mattress would probably fit on my bow...

I would be interested if anyone wants or needs an extra for their boat. I would be available pretty much any time.
