I have been buying and selling on eBay and craigslist since they both started, but never a problem. Got scammed for the first time this week by a local Wilmington native. He is selling Yamaha command link gauges and some wiring harness for $250 on several Craigslist sites. Said he didn't have a PayPal account, and asked me to send him a Walmart money gram, which I had never used, but did for the first time. He said he mailed them out on Tuesday, but of course they never showed up in Chapel Hill by today. I thought it was a little odd that the ad continued to run, but I knew I had been scammed when I saw the ad reposted on four boards about an hour ago tonight. I think he took them down, except maybe for Wilmington, after I posted a Beware ad on Raleigh, Wilmington and eastern North Carolina Craigslist boards.
I googled his name, and he has a long rap sheet around New Hanover County.

I have to admit, it's a clever scheme. From what little research I've been able to do on my phone, I'm not sure that you even have to present an ID to collect your money for a Walmart money gram, only the confirmation numbers that the sender gives you. And you can do it at any Walmart in the state.
You could make it look like you're selling boating and fishing items from a coastal location, and collecting your money from Walmarts scattered around the Charlotte area.

Hate to hear this. You are not alone though. I almost got took by a craigslist scammer that wanted payment using a Walmart green dot card. About the time I was going to pull the trigger on the deal I did some research. Basically, the research indicated NEVER do business with anyone requesting a Walmart green dot card.

And you should post his name to limit future damage to anyone.

I'm not going to post his name, and get into a pissing match with a known criminal, who also has my name, address, and telephone number, over $250. But his initials are JKB.
He only corresponds by text, and had all the right answers for selling gauges. Up-graded from a 2 stroke Yamaha to a Zuke, sold the Yam to someone who already had gauges.
Still running one of the ads, and his address is Ilex St in Monkey Junction. He won't respond to my texts anymore, but it would be interesting to know what he would say about a local sale, and person-to-person pickup. He probably would not show up.

For 250.00 stole from me I would be trying to set up a person to person buy with him. If he showed I might not get my money but he would need it for his er copay.

It's a 6 hour round trip for me, and I doubt seriously that he would show up for a face to face sale. He is probably selling a picture that he copied and pasted from Ebay.

So why is this still on if it is a scam? I don't doubt it is. Is there not someway to contact someone to have it removed? I am sure they will just have something else to sell (scam). Just wondering.

It used to be that when several people flagged the same ad, CL would delete it. A year or so ago, the process changed, and if I flag an ad now, it just disappears on my screen, but is visible on any other computer. And, I can actually unflag it, and it will be visible again. Not sure what happens on CL's end anymore, if several people flag the same ad.

HIS NAME IS JEFFREY K. BROCK.........

He broke into my office off of Wellington Ave in Wilmington last year and stole my southern skimmer. Luckily I was able to catch him red handed (thanks to a fellow fisherman) wiping fingerprints off of the boat in the yard of the house he was renting at Gulf Stream and Myrtle Grove Road. Unfortunately he had already removed (and sold?) my 75 Yamaha four stroke motor, as well as completely stripped the boat down (including removal of rub rail and rod holders). I linked him to at least 6 other cases of stolen boats/property in our area.

He owns a house in the silva terra area (Ilex Drive maybe?) but was not staying there at the time due to pending domestic abuse charges/restraining order....

It's a shame that Mr. Brock is still free and on the street. Last I was told by the ADA, the case had been pushed to the superior(?) court to combine all of his charges... Haven't heard a word since and this was back in October or November of 2015.

BEWARE OF MR. BROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please be sure to report any and all criminal interactions with this guy to local law enforcement so that they can investigate and add it to his rap sheet! I just got an update from the ADA that the ball is still rolling on this. Any and all info helps!!!
