NC –AIWW – WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH BRIDGE – FEBRUARY/MARCH CLOSURE SHEDULE FOR REPAIRS Mariners are advised that the S.R. 74 Bridge (at AICW mile 283.1) the Wrightsville Beach Bridge, will be partially closed to navigation from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. from 12 February through 05 March, 2004 . In addition, the bridge will be maintained in the full closed to navigation position from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. on 19 February, 2004 and each day from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on 22 February through 27 February. Contractors will be performing emergency mechanical repairs on the east leaf. West leaf is still operable and will provide horizontal clearance of approximately 42 feet in the partial open position. In the full closed to navigation position, the available vertical clearance is approximately 20 feet at MHW. Mariners able to transit through the bridge may do so, but should use extreme caution. NC – ATLANTIC INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY – NEUSE RIVER TO MYRTLE GROVE SOUND – SHOALING An U.S. Army Corps of Engineers survey has identified a controlling depth of 4 feet in the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, Bogue Sound, New River Area between Bogue Sound- New River Buoy 72 A (LLNR 30300) and Buoy 72B (LLNR 39303). Mariners may consult web site
NC – BOGUE SOUND – SHOALING There has been a report of shoaling in the vicinity of Bogue Sound Daybeacon 11 (LLNR 38585) to an approximate depth of 2.4 fee tMLW. All mariners are requested to transit the area with extreme caution. Chart 11541.
NC – AICWW – NEW RIVER INLET – SHOALING: Shoaling has been reported in New River Inlet. Controlling depth is reported as 4 feet in the Cedar Bush Cut area. Aids to navigation may not accurately mark the channel. Mariners are advised to review the following ACOE survey web-site for accurate sounding data on the inlet and navigate with caution when transiting this channel. –
NC – COASTAL- BOGUE INLET TO NEW RIVER INLET AND NEW RIVER (AICWW) – Firing Exercises The Commanding General, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina has advised that the danger zone (depicted as 334.440) as shown on National Ocean Service Chart 11543, and AICWW at New River may be hazardous to navigation due to field firing exercises. Firing exercises are scheduled daily. For additional information concerning specific dates and times refer to Monthly. LNM 05/04.
VI. PROPOSED CHANGES: Periodically the Coast Guard evaluates the system of Aids To Navigation and bridge regulations to determine whether the conditions for which the aids were established have changed. All comments should include the following information: 1) Quantity, type, capacity and value of vessels involved, and the extent that these vessels traverse the area under consideration seasonally, by day, and by night. 2) where practicable, the type of navigation devices, such as compasses, radio direction finders, radar, LORAN, DGPS, and search lights, with which such vessels are equipped. 3) The number of passengers and type, quantity, and value of cargo involved. 4) A chart section or sketch showing the action proposed when necessary to clearly describe the recommended improvement. NC – BEAUFORT INLET/SHACKLEFORD INLET – BEACH REPLENISHMENT The Hopper Dredges B.E. LINDHOLM and R.N. WEEKS will be conducting beach replenishment in the vicinity of Shackleford Banks with spoil being pumped onto the beach at Indian Beach from 12 February through 25 March, 2004. The dredges can be contacted on VHF-FM 16 and 67. Mariners are requested to stay clear of the dredge, floating and submerged pipeline, buoys and wires and review comments concerning dredging operations unde rGeneral Articles VII. Mariners are requested to exercise extreme caution and no wake when approaching, passing and leaving the dredge location and to strictly comply with Inland Rules of the Road and watch for indications of a submerged or partially submerged pipeline.
