Marine Fisheries Commission Finfish Advisory Committee The Marine Fisheries Commission Finfish Advisory Committee will meet on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. The meeting will be at the Washington Civic Center, located at 110 N Gladden Street, Washington, NC.
The Committee will review proposed rules by the federal government concerning interaction of fisheries and whales. The proposed rules would impact some of North Carolina’s ocean fisheries.
The Committee will also receive a presentation on a draft amendment to the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) American Eel Fisheries Management Plan. A public hearing is being held by the ASMFC in Washington, NC on April 13.
The Committee will also get an update on the management of black sea bass and other snapper/grouper species being considered by the South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council (SAFMC). Significant management restrictions are being discussed by the SAFMC.
The Committee will discuss recent requests by the Division of Marine Fisheries with regards to shark management by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). A petition has been submitted by DMF to NMFS regarding shark rules.
