Marine Fisheries Commission (MFC) Shellfish Advisory Committee


The next meeting of the Marine Fisheries Commission (MFC) Shellfish Advisory Committee will be held Monday, January 9 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held in room 306 of the CMAST Building at Carteret Community College, located at 303 College Circle in Morehead City, NC.

The committee will first receive an update on management of the mechanical harvest season for oysters and will also receive updates on oyster hatcheries and oyster recycling efforts.

The committee will receive updates on the dredge weight study as a result of the proposed amendment to the Oyster FMP and the Under the Dock Oyster (UDOC) Culture Program.

Applications are being processed to participate in the UDOC program.

The committee will also be updated on the draft Bay Scallop FMP.

The next meeting of the Marine Fisheries Commission (MFC) Shellfish Advisory Committee will be held Monday, January 24, 2005 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the C-MAST Building, 303 College Circle, Room 305, Morehead City, NC.

The Committee will first receive comments on the Oyster FMP Amendment 2. This meeting will be one of three public meetings held to get additional input on the proposed Amendment. The other two meetings will be held on January 25 in Bayboro at the courthouse and January 27 in Swanquarter at the fire station. Those meetings begin at 7:00 p.m.

The Committee will receive a presentation from the Shellfish Sanitation Section on the 2004 shellfish closures in White Oak River and other areas.

Members of the Committee also requested that the rule requiring certification oysters from leases during the closed season (03K.0205) will be discussed.
