The Committee will receive an update on the MFC actions regarding the Blue Crab Fishery Management Plan (FMP). Public hearings will be held on proposed blue crab rules in March and April.
The Committee will also be updated on the progress of the Draft Shrimp FMP. An advisory committee has been helping the DMF with the Draft FMP since February 2004. Eighteen committee meetings have been held regarding the Draft Shrimp FMP. The FMP advisory committee is presently discussing management options for specific geographic regions.
The Committee will discuss stone crab management options. The MFC first considered stone crab management options in 2001 after being asked to implement measures by its Southeast Regional Advisory Committee. Measures were taken to public hearings in 2003. After reviewing the public and advisory committee’s comments, the MFC referred the issue back to the Southeast Regional Advisory Committee and Crustacean Committee.
