MFC Strategic Habitat Area Advisory Committee


The MFC Strategic Habitat Area Advisory Committee will have its first meeting Wednesday, August 10, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will be held at the C-Mast building in room 205, located at 303 College Circle in Morehead City.

The goal of the North Carolina Coastal Habitat Protection Plan is to “Identify, designate, and protect Strategic Habitat Areas” (SHA’s). Such areas are defined as “specific locations of individual fish habitats or systems of habitats that have been identified to provide exceptional habitat functions or that are particularly at risk due to imminent threats, vulnerability, or rarity”. The SHA Advisory Committee was established by the MFC to provide advice on criteria and a process to classify and protect strategic habitat.
