NC Marine Fisheries Commission Finfish Advisory Committee

Notice is hereby given that the NC Marine Fisheries Commission Finfish Advisory Committee will meet on Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. The meeting will be held at the Washington Regional Office, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, 943 Washington Square Mall, Washington, NC.

The Committee will discuss the management of striped bass commercial fisheries in the Atlantic Ocean. The Attorney General’s Office has advised that the MFC and Director do not have the authority to make people declare what fishery they intend to fish in and limit to one fishery (attached). The MFC asked the DMF to draft a proclamation managing the healthy seine fishery as the historical traditional fishery. Attached is a draft proclamation and recommendation of the Take Reduction Team, which has provided recommendations on management of the seine fishery.
