New Amendment Would End Overfishing on Snowy Grouper, Golden Tilefish, Vermilion Snapper and Black Sea Bass; Increase Catch of Red Porgy The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council has submitted
to the Fishery Management Plan for the Snapper-Grouper Fishery of the South Atlantic Region for review by NOAA Fisheries. This amendment would end overfishing of snowy grouper, golden tilefish, vermilion snapper, and black sea bass through new regulations for the commercial and recreational fisheries. Some of these proposed management measures would be phased in over 2-3 years. The Amendment would also provide for an increase the catch of red porgy. A recent stock assessment for red porgy showed that the stock is rebuilding from an overfished status and is not subject to overfishing.
