NOAA Fisheries Announces Atlantic Surfclam and Ocean Quahog Catch Limits for 20

NOAA Fisheries announces the 2017 catch limits for the Atlantic surfclam and ocean quahog fisheries and provides projected status quo quotas for 2018.

Fishing year 2017 (January 1-December 31, 2017) quotas are 3.4 million bushels for Atlantic surfclams, 5.3 million bushels for ocean quahogs, and 100,000 Maine bushels for Maine ocean quahogs.

These quotas are unchanged from fishing year 2016, and have remained unchanged since 2004. Ocean quahogs and Atlantic surfclams are not overfished, and overfishing is not occurring. We are also suspending the minimum size limit for 2017, as we have done annually since 2005. su

We remind surfclam and ocean quahog fishermen that for their safety, it is important to stay informed of how to identify and react to discarded military munitions encountered while fishing. Contact us at 978-281-9315 if you would like a pamphlet of information on military munitions.
