NOAA Fisheries Participates in Press Conference to Discuss Ending Overfishing NOAA Fisheries’ Assistant Administrator, Dr. Bill Hogarth joined representatives from National Geographic and the National Environmental Trust on March 20, 2007, for a press conference on the state of the world’s oceans. The recently reauthorized Magnuson-Stevens Act was a major focus of the event. The Act specifies new annual catch limit measures to end overfishing and rebuild fish populations. Dr. Hogarth discussed the concrete steps being taken to end overfishing, through our commitment to ending domestic overfishing by 2010. He also highlighted the need to address international conservation issues through regional fishery management organizations such as the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT).
