North East Cape Fear River and Holly Shelter Creek Closed


WILMINGTON, N.C.- Due to flooding caused by Tropical Storm Ernesto, Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Wilmington has closed the North East Cape Fear River and Holly Shelter Creek upstream from the Castle Hayne Highway Route 117 Bridge within New Hanover and Pender Counties. A safety zone remains in effect until 11:00 P.M., September 15, 2006.


The safety zone is in place to restrict vessel traffic in an effort to minimize wake damage to structures in flooded areas, and avoid hindering state and county emergency response operations.


If access to this area is necessary by home and business owners affected by the flooding, permission must be granted by the Coast Guard.
