Public Notice-Habitat and Water Quality (H&WQ) Committee

Habitat and Water Quality (H&WQ) Committee will meet on Monday, February 28, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Washington Regional Office, 943 Washington Square Mall, Washington, NC.

The Subcommittee will discuss the Sandy Point, Chowan County permit elevation. The Subcommittee will also receive updates on several projects.

The Committee will discuss a statute passed by the North Carolina Senate that allows counties to designate areas as urban waterfront. Advisors asked that this issue be discussed. The new statute applies to the Sandy Point project.

Wayne Mobley, Shellfish Sanitation, will give the Committee a presentation on recent shellfish closures in North Carolina.

The Committee will also be given a presentation on oyster sanctuaries from the Division of Marine Fisheries.

The Committee will be given an update on the Coastal Habitat Protection Plan (CHPP), and will discuss implementation of the MFC priority for the CHPP, strategic habitat.

The Committee will also be given an update on the MFC workshops for compensatory mitigation.
