Seafood Dealer Fined $50,000 for Purchase of Illegal Bluefin
NOAA Fisheries Service has cited a Massachusetts seafood dealer with a $50,000 Notice of Violation and Assessment for purchasing tuna harvested by a vessel in violation of the catch limit for Atlantic bluefin tuna.
“It’s important for fishermen to know that our office and our Massachusetts enforcement partners do all we can to have all fishermen play on a level field,” said Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge Louis Jachimczyk, NOAA Fisheries Service Office for Law Enforcement – Northeast Division. “Fish dealers and fish buyers should be aware that we’re not just monitoring the fishermen.”
