The next meeting of the Marine Fisheries Commission Shellfish Advisory Committee will be held Monday, October 16, at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held in Room 306 of the CMAST Building at Carteret Community College, located at 303 College Circle in Morehead City, NC.

Directly following the Shellfish Advisory Committee meeting, the committee will convene as the Oyster and Hard Clam Fishery Management Plan Advisory Committee. Staff will provide orientation and present a draft timeline, a review of revised goals and objectives for both oysters and hard clams, and a review of proposed fishery management plan amendments for both oysters and hard clams.

The committee will receive a report from Troy Alphin on his oyster dredging research Staff will provide two annual shellfish rehabilitation reports; an update on rehabilitation and sanctuary activities; an update on Under the Dock Oyster Culture; an update on oyster shell recycling; and an oyster hatchery update.

The committee will also receive updates on shellfish FMPs, including the Bay Scallop FMP, the Oyster FMP, and the Hard Clam FMP. Staff will also provide an update on Marine Fisheries Commission and Division of Marine Fisheries activities.

The committee will first receive a presentation on the study on developing the capacity for fisheries use of the non-native oyster, Crassostrea ariakensis and will also receive an update on oyster hatcheries in North Carolina.
The committee will also receive updates on the dredges weight study and under the dock oyster culture.
