PUBLIC NOTICE – Spiny Dogfish Compliance Advisory Panel

The NC Marine Fisheries Commission (MFC) Spiny Dogfish Compliance Advisory Panel (CAP) will meet on Thursday, December 21, at 2 p.m., at the DENR Washington Regional Office, Washington Square Mall, 1424 Carolina Avenue, Washington, N.C.

Topics of discussion will include the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) Technical Committee Report, actions taken by the ASMFC Spiny Dogfish Management Board with regard to quotas and trip limits for the 2006-07 and 2007-08 fishing years, and actions taken by the NC Division of Marine Fisheries with respect to spiny dogfish. The CAP will also be asked to develop recommendations for compliance with the ASMFC Spiny Dogfish Fishery Management Plan.

Spiny Dogfish Compliance Advisory Panel


The N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission (MFC) Spiny Dogfish Compliance Advisory Panel will meet on Thursday, August 24, at 1 p.m. The meeting will be held at the DENR Washington Regional Office, Washington Square Mall, 1424 Carolina Avenue, Washington, N.C.

At this meeting the panel will formulate their recommendations to the N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission for managing spiny dogfish, along with the panel’s rationale for the recommendations. The group will also select a spokesperson to present their findings to the MFC at the commission’s business meeting Sept. 28-29 in Atlantic Beach.

The Spiny Dogfish CAP is composed of recreational and commercial fishermen and scientists that have an interest and experience with the dogfish fishery in North Carolina. The MFC appointed the Spiny Dogfish CAP to review whether North Carolina should challenge the management measures of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) and Mid- Atlantic/New England Fishery Management Council Spiny Dogfish Fishery Management Plans.
