Swordfish Management Measures Extended NOAA Fisheries has published a
to extend the 2005 management measures for North Atlantic swordfish and adjust quotas to account for updated landings information. This final rule implements a recommendation adopted by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT). The effective date of this rule is June 19, 2006.
North Atlantic swordfish is currently managed under an international rebuilding program designed to rebuild the stock by 2009. The status of the stock has already increased to 94% of the target level. A new stock assessment is planned for September 2006.
