The 2006 Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament names their chosen charities for the up

The 2006 Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament names their chosen charities for the upcoming 48th Annual tournament held this June 10-7 2006.

The Big Rock is the largest non-profit tournament of its kind in the United States giving at least $100,000 each year to deserving organizations. “We know that some organizations would not exist without our contributions”, comments tournament director, Crystal Watters. “It is a great feeling to be part of this wonderful tournament”, she continued.

Each year in July the board president appoints a charity committee to carefully review all requests for funding. This year’s tournament committee consists of Richard Crowe-chairman, Casey Wagner, Carol Lohr, Ben Moore and Curtis Strange. The committee then reviews the requests received up to that point and continue their efforts until the deadline of December 15. The entire process is driven by the fit between Big Rock’s five-point mission statement and the destination of the year’s charitable funds.

“Every year it seems more difficult to decide where the funds will go”, comments Richard Crowe. “We run out of money before we run out of good causes but we try to fill as many needs as possible”, he continued.

In 2005 the tournament donated $110,000 from the Big Rock Tournament. That brings cumulative donations thus far to well over a million dollars….from a fishing tournament!!

Although the Big Rock board identifies the charities for the current operating year, the exact amounts given will not be determined until the Saturday evening Awards Banquet, held this year on June 17, 2006.
