This is the same exhibit that was on display in Silver Spring, MD, during NOAA Heritage Week, February 6-10, 2006, and now is available to travel around the country with the first stop in Norfolk. Nauticus is a maritime-themed science and education center that attracts more than 350,000 visitors a year with special programs and exhibits focused on exploring the power of the sea. NOAA @ Nauticus is an exciting partnership between NOAA and Nauticus to promote scientific and environmental literacy and to inform the public about NOAA’s programs and activities. The NOAA @ Nauticus team (
NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office, the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, and the Office of Coast Survey) worked closely with Nauticus staff to adapt the original exhibit for a museum audience.The exhibit features a collection of historic artifacts highlighting NOAA’s nearly two hundred year history of groundbreaking technologies developed to save lives, promote commerce and expand knowledge of the Earth. The exhibit includes a replica of the U.S. Bureau of Fisheries laboratory from the 1930s; the Bureau was the predecessor of today’s NOAA Fisheries Service. The exhibit will be on public display until September 4, 2006.
