Waycross, Ga. woman dead after vessel swamped by wave


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 39-year-old Waycross, Ga. woman is dead after the vessel she, her husband and three children were on was swamped by a wave and sank about two miles south of the Golden Isle Marina in Brunswick, Ga. about 12:45 today.


A Good Samaritan, found the two adults and three children floating in the water and notified the Coast Guard. The Good Samaritan, pulled Willie Calhoun and Anita Calhoun, who was reported to be unconscious, along with their three children out of the water while a rescue from Coast Guard Station Brunswick was en route.


The three children were reported to be wearing life jackets but neither Mr. Calhoun nor Mrs. Calhoun were wearing life jackets.


Once on scene, the Coast Guard rescue crew immediately transferred Mrs. Calhoun to their boat, started CPR and rushed her to Golden Isle Marine where EMS was waiting to take her to the local hospital. The Coast Guard also directed the Good Samaritan to transfer Mr. Calhoun and the children to the Golden Isle Marine where EMS was waiting for them.
