Does anyone have a flir system on their boat or have any experience using one?
I have used them before. Short of losing someone over board I do not really see the usefulness of them. I am Old School....me and radar get along just fine.

“Old school” doesn’t build websites and keep updating it using terminology regular people don’t understand and then use 27 different satellite images to pinpoint exactly where the fish are....
I just want to see in the dark so I don’t hit anything or anyone.
Keep up the good work “old school”!! Too funny. Hope you’re doing well. My son and I talk about the trip with you bottom fishing often. Loves to tell me he caught the most and the biggest.
Just read something today on another site about Raymarine dumping Flir. Suggest you check around from what I hear it’s not a cheap item to purchase.
its Flir dumping Raymarine. Flir owns them.

Anything that is in the water is the same temp as the water so you can not see much unless it is sticking out of the water.
I have been running in the dark now for many years....it is just something you have to get “right in the head” about and get on with it.
Now if you lose someone overboard...it would be very useful
A sunk container from a ship or a log....you will not see it in time with flair that I am aware of

I recently installed one on a 58 buddy Davis. So far I like it. It’s a fixed one so I’m only seeing a very small area on my sides. I still rely on my radar.
I have a MD 625 FLIR on my boat and like it a lot. It has 4 times the resolution of the 300 series and the increased resolution makes a big difference. I like to run in the dark using FLIR, Garmin Radar, and Chart plotter with my underwater lights turned on for safety.
