The console on my carolina skiff is getting a bit loose. When i tightened up the screws, some of them were striped out. What would be best for me to do? :?:

Short of taking it to a fiberglass man, I'd remove the scews, fill holes with marine-tex, and re-drill when cured. I think it would hold, but others may have a better idea.

Clean the holes out. put a little marine tex or a cabosil mix mixture in the hole, then push a wooden dowl in the hole. The wood gives the screw something to hold to and the marin tex kinda waterproofs the hole.

Or/and fill the holes with silicon, push the screw in, then silicon the base of the console to the deck. A thin bead around the inside and out will do.

What I have done in the past is taken out the screw. Cut a zip tie to approximate length of hole then put the screw back in. Works great for screws #10 and smaller. you may want to be cautious with anything larger

They make nylon and metal through deck anchors for just such a situation re drill the hole drop them in and pull tight then fill hole with 5200 and run the bolt in and cut off the nylon ties. Any large marine supply should carry them.

Large gauge weed eater line makes an excellent "filler" for stripped out holes in fiberglass, plastics and composites. Cut a piece a little shorter than the screw, drop it in the hole and tighten. By making the line a little shorter, you enable the head of the screw to seat itself flush.

I had the same deal with my console. Went one size bigger stainless steel screws. You could also put some 5200 in the hole first but mine tightened up really good so I did not feel I needed it. Good luck.

Don't put any wood in it.
5200, marinetex or anything else that curse hard and can be drilled. Or go 1-2 sizes up in screw. The correct way would be to drill of the hole a little larger and then fill, to make sure you get to some solid glass for the adhesive to bond to. But that would mean removing the console so you'll probably not want to mess with that.
Either way I would drill in another screw half way between the one that is stripped and the next good one.
If the console to floor connection was caulked you'll need to clean that off and put a new bead of caulk down before screwing it tight.

If you can get to the bottom side through a access panel, through bolt it. If not you can try as mentioned above but hope its not wet or rotten. I had some that were loose, make sure its dry and fill the holes with fiberglass resin. That will soak into the wood and make it a harder and larger area to redrill.
