I've caught them smaller than that, young stay inshore before heading offshore!!!!

ahhh, I thought they bred offshore in the deep. Didn't know they came inshore to breed.

Yeah it's pretty cool. I've caught them in the gulf off inland piers, not legal but much bigger. And at the skyway pier there I've seen some
Caught there in the 30 " range.

We used to catch juvenile goliaths in the mangroves when I lived in Tampa, never tried fishing for gags around the docks.

Have caught gags around the wall at Morehead City. Most were around 15-17inches.

I was fishing the jetty at Shack last fall for trout and couldn't keep them off the hook. I caught 8 in a row, all about 7-8 inches on a gulp shrimp on a jig head.
