Congratulations to captain and crew of the Run Off for winning the BIG Rock Blue Marlin tournament. Heck of a pay day at just over $1.1 million. Way to go Marty! Be careful blowing it out tonight. Terrific Win!!!!!

Congratulations to Capt. Brian and Marty (Box) & crew!

They must have sweated it out waiting for a bigger weigh in. It held up!!

Always loved Box's posts. Hope he has one of the win.

Congratulations to Brian and Marty.
When I first started fishing booked a trip with them because of their hands on style. I might want refresher course. Congrats again.

Was this a chartered deal, or did they enter themselves? Always wonder how these things work.

Great fish.

Here's what I think about Box. He has his way of doing things amassed over years of being offshore and knows what works. Sure other methods work too but he feels (knows) his way is the best. When others question his tactics he is not the type of person to sit quietly and maybe could be more tactful in his responses but I don't think he cares what others think.

I attended a small rigging/fishing school he put on a few yrs ago and have fished with him and Brian 3 times. Both of them are 1st class, A1 individuals. Box will do anything to help you and is more than willing to teach and share his vast experience. I think he is a great guy, not a wuss, and maybe a little rough around the edges. I like him a lot.

I sat in the bridge with Brian some and talked a little and mainly observed. That guy is a machine. Extremely focused and gets the job done. It was just a matter of time.

Here's my most memorable Run Off trip:

No but most everybody pulls lures in tournaments nowadays because of the circle hook rule

Regardless of any negative opinions, Marty knows his game. He and I along with numerous others have butted heads, big deal it's just opinions. Being opinionated and rough around the edges is to be expected from most that make their living at sea. It's long hard days, long hard learning curve, weather/markets and break downs are a constant road block, but yet most that are head strong enough still make it work. At the end of the day he has been the author of many great points and posts, most of which are plain common sense to those of us that spend many days on the water. He really didn't have to share any of his in sites and got tarred/feathered for many of his posts. Anyone that has been on these websites knows his name and should have heeded 90% of his advice. While he and I have certainly locked horns in the past, let me say in no un-certain terms "I TIP MY RIGGERS TO YOU BOX". Love him or hate him, he's one hell of a pit boss. Wild Card

Nobody has denigrated his knowledge or fishing ability. Just the way he interacts with others on the internet.

I hope so. He gave brief account on Facebook how the fish was teased in.

Marty Hiatt posted this"" He first crashed a Laceration lure teaser on left side then switched off to the ViperSniper teaser on the other side ... I then cranked the right short up and switched him off... case closed""

I can see why he left this site. Also the same reason many never post..... But we don't need to argue that

I was also wondering about the bait/lure/technique for hooking that marlin. THanks for posting the info!
