I was just looking through the new Bass Pro sale paper and noticed they have a Stoeger over/under 12 or 20 gauge reduced from 449.99 to 399.99.
I don't know anything about the manufacturer, but it didn't seem like a bad price. Just throwing it out there as an option for you.

The Stoeger O/U and the CZ O/U are both great guns for the money.

I don't know what his budget is but I have a Browning White Lightning 12 guage with 28" barrels. I have taken it twice to shoot five stand. MSRP $2,600 Gunbroker for $2,300 will sell for $1,300.

Very nice gun but I think it is a little more than he wants to spend. I will let him know about it this morning.
