Anyone having any luck catching any Bonito at New River Inlet. I came down last Tuesday and caught 4 trolling, but were very far and few between. Last year this time had lots of bait balls and fish busting everywhere. I was going to head down tomorrow and give it a shot but didnt want to waste my time if not much had changed. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Those bait balls usually hold some nice Spanish. We usually catch the bigger ones on the BWC Spanish chain.

Any of you guys going out of Topsail Inlet? Looking for first hand updates on channel condition. Haven't seen an update on the Corp of Engineers charts since January.

The dredge was still there last week, don't know if he is done yet. He was blocking the channel at that time going around to Leah Island.
The Army Corps has tried 2 times to survey but could not complete with the dredge on location.
Hope we get a channel survey soon.

Thanks for that. Haven't gone out in a few weeks, and I've been using MBI to get offshore. Once the tourist season kicks off, though, that area gets a little crazy for me.

Thought I'd read that they're only doing Topsail Creek this spring, and will do the inlet in the fall... but it would be awesome if they get that thing cleaned up before the season kicks in. Nevertheless, I'm sure there's enough water for my rig... I just would like to know where it is.

if you got out of NRI and head SSE about 1-3 miles, you'll be all over it. Look for the other boats.

Salt and pepper bonito. Get frying pan nice and hot, Pour some olive oil and a small piece of butter in pan, cook each side for 1 minute, and they're done. Remember you are searing them. Do not cook all the way through. It should be medium rare inside.
