New survey out here

https://www.saw.usace.army.mil/Missions/Navigation/Hydrographic-Surveys/Inlets-Crossings/

They didn’t even try the ocean bar. Rumors I’ve heard are that it is basically impassible at low tide, and better be flat sees and know what you are doing at higher tides.

So glad they didn’t ask for a jetty when they had the chance (sarcasm).

Be careful out there.

We went out (and back in) in Mid-April. It was like an hour past high tide on the out, and I think it was probably midway on the way back in.

The channel was very well marked, however, we almost took one over the bow on the way out, even at high tide on relatively calm seas. The return was fine with the following seas.

I went out a couple times about the same time. From what I’ve heard the ocean bar shoaling has been significant since that time. Hopefully they get a dredge in there soon, otherwise Memorial Day weekend could be a busy one for Emerald Isle USCG station.
