Barry’s probably gonna kill me as he is one of those cranky old Yankees , but seriously everyone that knows him he’s in dire need of prayers for his family and his brother!! His brother has been moved to hospice and is not doing good and Barry is having a rough time with it , I’ve known this man for 6 years and him and his family are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet he is like a father to me and my family and my heart breaks for him , love you Barry stay strong and if this website could just take a minute out of there day to say a little prayer thanks!!

Today Monday at 5:30am. My brother Joe ended his 10-year fight with cancer. There are no winners or losers in this fight. Only spectators who must sit on the sidelines and watch, knowing what the result will be. Joe and I may have been polar opposites in many ways, but we were still brothers and loved each other just the same. He has now gone to live with our mother and father.
I would like to recognize his daughters Jodi & Lauren and son in laws Mike & Brad and all his friends and family who kept in touch with Joe and myself through this ordeal. I would also like to say thank you to those who took the time to see him. His long-time friend Gail who came down from Kentucky, my son Matthew Turano who drove for 12 hours to stay overnight to see his uncle then drive another 12 hours back to New York. My son Marc and his wife (our adopted Daughter Renee) and our 2 grand daughters who would come to visit. Our grandchildren from New York who also called with their thoughts and prayers. But most of all my wife Mary Ann who loved Joe like her own brother. She is the one who has kept me sane through this process. I must also mention all my friends who lent their moral support and prayers.
Marc and I will be taking Joe for one last fishing trip on my boat to scatter his ashes on the sea. We will go to one of my favorite areas and rename the spot “Uncle Joe”. Probably not what he would have preferred. I think he would have rather a golf course but I have never stepped foot on one so I would not know what to do. Or maybe Wall Street. But there I would probably be arrested for littering. So, he will take one last trip on the “Game Changer”.
But he will not be forgotten, Mary Ann and I have decided to have his name and “Beloved Brother” added to the bench that marks our burial site. At Oleander Memorial Gardens here in Wilmington. In that way there will always be a remembrance of my brother Joe.
Rest in peace Joe. Your suffering has ended. I love you my brother.
Barry

Barry. I’m sorry to hear of Joe’s passing. I know you will have lasting memories and hope you get to visit him at “Uncle Joe” often. Prayers for you and the family. Cherish the memories.

Update on the memorial servive. It will take place on Friday October 4 at 9am. Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. 6550 Carolina Beach Rd. Wilmington NC 28412.
It has been suggested and I agree. That being we live at the beach and Joe always like bright colors. That the traditional black color of mourning be replaced with bright pastel beachy colors. After all this will be a celebration of his life. So wear something bright and cheerful. Let's send him out the way he would like. Boat shoes and flip flop are okay also. Let's try to make something joyful out of something sad.

One last thought, if anyone has the mind to. Please do NOT send flowers. Instead a donation of no matter how small to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center would be a lot better. I can't say enough about how wonderful that organization is.
