I was thinking about making some giggin' lights use on my boat soon so I could try out flounder stickin'. If I become addicted like I think I might...what are everyone's opinions about using underwater LED lights on the bottom of your boat instead of something that hinges from the top. Is it even feasible? This just popped in my head so I have not had any chance to research this...so this is my diarhea of the fishing mind. Appreciate the input in advance. Let 'er rip.

I dont think that you would have enough forward light to allow you to see the fish early. In skinny water I dont think you would be able to see very well out 2 ft or so... I do however like the thoughts of LEDS in some sort of fashion. I use to use an inverter and flourescent lights and enjoyed the quiet.....

these guys use the leds and you do not have to mess with a generator as you can just use a battery for hours.

I purchased my giggin' lights from the same site mentioned above but have the Magnum Halogens and use a Yamaha Inverter generator. I run two (3 million candle power) and if the water is not too turbid I can see a mile. I have to use a shield on the backside (PVC) b/c the brightness of the lights blinds you when standing over them. I suspect if you get the Magnum LEDs you will have to do the same. When I purchased my lights he didnt have the LEDs so I went with the only option. When my generator dies I will probably go with LEDs. One thing about the halogens is they burn extremely hot so don't light them unsubmerged and leave them in the water a couple of minutes after turning them off. I don't think you have to deal with this with the LEDs. Allenj has some pretty cool lights mounted on his boat which do not require submerssion and are easily adjusted. I have also heard of a light that will make the gill plates of the flounder glow blue thus helping you see them fairly easily? The guy telling me about them said he got his set in Maryland? I looked into it briefly and gave-up. It was the same fellow who made my custom stainless gigs. If you are really interested I can try to look him up for you.

Get a gig-a-bite light. They are a handheld light that runs on AA batteries. It's actually 4 LED bulbs and it it super bright! I just take my boat where I wanna go, hop out and wade along looking for fish. Beats dumping all that money into multiple lights and a generator and is just as effective.

Swamp Eye flounder lights are some of the brightest, toughest, best all around lights you can get for gigging. I've been running them 4 years now without any issues.

This thread is pretty old.
No one wants to spend money on gigging lights now since you can only use them for 2 weeks out of the year.
