Costa Sunglasses-It was good run…..but I am DONE with you!
I have owned Costa’s for many years. Historically they have been very good glasses.
I have broke 2 frames now in a single season. I have an older pair that I bet went 10 seasons. I would expect that kind of crap from a 29.99 pair or even a 99.99 pair but for 250.00. No way I am done
It turns out Costa has been bought out by the bean counters. Quality has gone to the shitter!
I bought a pair of Bajio’s that s it turned out is a company started by some former Costa employees.
I will post some pics as soon as I get a chance.

Capt Dave, thought it was just me and bad luck but have had the same issues with the last 2 pair of Costas, frames breaking, rubber sections coming off or apart. The customer service was still great for the first year of covid but the last year has not been the same. Thank you for sharing and the info about Bajios…I’m ready to give them a try, especially if they are the “original” Costas!

Same thing here.... I switched to Smith's and have been very pleased so far. Also just purchased a pair of Maui Jim's to give a try. Havent had them long enough to get a verdict.

Despite being 5 years old, I'm not mature enough to own a quality pair of sunglasses. I lose mine, pop lenses out, break frames, scratch them etc....
I realize a lot of that is tied to crappy product, except the 'lose' part, and even the scratch part because I don't take care of them like I should.
All this adds up to me thinking I'm better off spending $25 for a pair of cheap plastic ones at the tackle shop 1-2X a season than sinking multiple hundred dollars into a pair that could go overboard any second.
I realize a lot of that is tied to crappy product, except the 'lose' part, and even the scratch part because I don't take care of them like I should.
All this adds up to me thinking I'm better off spending $25 for a pair of cheap plastic ones at the tackle shop 1-2X a season than sinking multiple hundred dollars into a pair that could go overboard any second.

I had a pair of Smiths my wife bought for me around 2008ish. About a year and a half ago I noticed a delamination for lack of a better term of the tinting on one of the lenses. I sent them to Smith, they gave about $85.00 towards a new pair since they do not make those anymore. Definitely love the new Smith's I have.

Me too and I'm 70. I keep an old pair of Maui Jim's in my ditch bag but buy 4 pair of cheap $25-$30 nice polarized, 2 different shades, each year to wear. Many years ago I got tired of dumping/breaking/giving away $200 Costa/Maui shades. Ain't got to be cool to see well and catch fish.

A long time ago, I found out that if I spent a dollar or two more for some good shades, they lasted me much longer. I think it was a combination of me wanting to take care of them and simple quality.
These days, I keep a pair of WAY out of style Vuarnet shades on the boat. I picked them up at CampMor for something like $85. When they came on the market in the '80s, they were much closer to $200. They are practically bulletproof. Sooner or later, these will be in style again, but honestly, on the boat who the hell cares? They're awesome shades.
Point is, check out sites like CampMor if you're interested in getting some good glasses for a good price that won't hurt so much if they go overboard. They may not be currently in style, but the price is generally right and quality is old school.
Full disclosure - I do not now nor have I ever worked or profited from CampMor. It's something I stumbled over a long time ago, and it has been a real money saver for my less-than-fashion conscious self.

I've have 3 pairs, when I have an issue with one I use the others and send the broken ones back and they send me a new pair no questions asked. Being on the water 8-10 hours a day I need a high quality lens and Costa has been it. Have heard (from an optometrist) Maui's are good to but I don't know anything about their warranties.

I have owned Costas since before they were frat boy cool. Over 25 years. They used to be fantastic, but now are garbage. I have sent the same pair back 6 times now and could have bought a new pair for the continued $20 service charge they charge me for the same defect every year. I wrote a letter 2 years ago when I sent them in last explaining they should cover the fee but they choose not to so I will never buy another pair. Lots of good glasses out there these days to deal with Costa anymore. WileyX captivate series are very nice in addition to Smith and Maui Jims.

Smith's, hands down the best glasses I've ever owned. Wife bought them for me after knocking my other pair of Costa's overboard. Turned out to be the best loss ever.

My optometrist no longer carries or recommends Costa sunglasses because of recent deterioration of quality and lots of unresolved customer complaints. The whole staff there loves Maui Jims. I bought a pair, and I must say I've very impressed. I like them better than my old (pre-shitty-quality) Costas.

Maui's warranty is awesome! I paid like $350 for a pair of wire frames and had for 3 years. Sat on them and broke them. Called Maui and sent them back, got a brand new pair for $85... You can replace parts on them for not much. IMHO they are the best!
