Hello all,
My wife and I currently have a older 24' Edgewater with a single 300 Suzuki that we bought used 9 years ago. We've had a lot of fun on that boat, but we are beginning the process to move up to something a bit bigger in the 25 -26 foot range with twin 150's. The Sea Hunt Gamefish 25 and Grady White 257 Fisherman are currently at the top of the list. Anyone have first hand experience with either of these models? Anything bigger than those would require moving up to a bigger truck to tow the rig and I'm not wanting to do that at this point. Specifically I'd like to hear comments on how these models handle the pesky 2-3' short period slop that is so common to crop up on our coast (we fish out of Beaufort Inlet mostly) when it breezes up. Do they still plane well at slower speeds like 14-15 mph? We like to troll, but are enjoying doing more and more bottom fishing, so both of these options seem like a good compromise to handle both of these tasks. Both have bigger/deeper bows with more flare to help with a smoother / drier ride. I know there are more boats out there that will ride smoother because of greater hull deadrise, but good side to side stability is important for us. Any first hand feedback on either of these options would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jud

I have a 2014 GF 25 that I bought new. It handles the 2-3 chop well. Although, I'm not trying to do 35 mph into the chop. Like you, I fish out of Beaufort Inlet as well. As for planning at 14-15 mph. I think my boat would be plowing through the water. (I do not HST) If you have any questions about the GameFish you can PM me.

I know Barry - it sure doesn't seem that long ago! Time has sure gone by quickly. Hope you and your family are doing well.

Thank you Jud. I have slowed down quite a bit. Sold the albemarle 3 or 4 years ago. Bought a Sailfish 2660 with twin 250's with my son Marc. Turned the entire thing over to him. Now I fish as "Crew" rather than "Captain". Getting old is not for the weak. 3/4 of a century is a long time. But I keep moving. Not going to go let anything take me out easily.

Don't think the twin 150's would be strong enough on the GW. Knew a guy who had the Sea Hunt with the 150's. Boat was quick the ride was okay. The GW will probably give you a better ride. Just not sure if the 150's will be strong enough. I mean it will move you along but your fuel burn will be more. The GW is a heavier boat.
