Even though I shot this one while muzzleloading for whitetails, I have put a hurting on a lot of "dogs" like this one using mouth calls and my FoxPro. Another one bites the dust. Sorry for the fuzzy pic.

Do you have good luck with the Foxpro? I've had several people with electronic calls say they can't call one in here in NC, but have had luck out west. And we have a lot of coyotes. I had been contemplating getting a call until I heard these comments.

Yes, the FoxPro works well. I use more coyote vocalization with it than distress sounds. I normally start out with a lonesome howl. Wait a few minutes, then again. If I get a response, I'll go directly to yote pup distress. If not, I'll do a challenge bark or two, then go to the pup distress. They usually come in hard. I hunt in the daylight as it's normally too thick where I hunt to use lights and they are gonna go down wind and get your scent before you see their eyes sweeping a light. I like to set my call on old fence lines or on anything the yote can come to the call thinking he has some cover such as brushy ravines, etc. I use mouth calls when I distress call, which is seldom. Sometimes I will carry one with me and use it after a morning deer hunt to see if I can get one in. Doesn't seem to bother the deer in the least. Use a "lil dog" by primos for that with some success.
Also, some people start out a little too loud with their callers. Coyotes don't have a problem hearing. Start out low volume and work it up if using distress. Rabbits don't have amplifiers. On the yote vocalizations I will ramp it up. And don't over call your property.

Im sure he's using the foxpro for that. I use some of the same calls he does, I havent had much sucess with distress sounds on Yotes. Foxes and Cats come into those mostly. Dogkiller what Foxpro do you reccomend. I have a old johnny stewart and Im looking to upgradel. Good Luck out there and Kill them all.

Guess any FoxPro model would be okay. Mine is an older FX5 I think. Over 200 sounds you can put on it. Mostly use only a select few though. I can do pup distress with a mouth call pretty good but not as good as the FoxPro. Main thing about calling coyotes is stand selection and placing the call in the right place. They won't come where they won't come. Have called them across open fields but brush covered branches, ravine, and fence lines are good places to put the call on otherwise open areas or fields.
Had a fellow call me one time that had his dog killed by yotes. As I drove up his driveway I crossed a creek that ran right in front of his house about 80yds. Set the caller on the creek, got him out of the house and we setup in the shrubbery in front of his porch. Called one in in about 3 minutes flat.

Glad to see more hunters go after those buggers. They are everywhere now days. I was a big deer and quail hunter back in the day and wild birds are are almost a thing of the past. Go getum my friend!
