I caught this 4 inch long fish in my cast net earlier today at Atlnatic Beach, NC in the marsh... I can't help but think it looks like a small snook. Is this possible? Or is it something else I'm missing? See attached picture. Thanks

I caught 2 last year in Sneads Ferry with the cast net. Looking forward to the responses. Pics I showed to people and they said Snook.

Yeah, between the protruding lower jaw, and that lateral line it awfully snookish...

Looks like a snook to me. I friend of mine in the boat with me caught one 18 inches long floating a live shrimp at the Little River entries in November of 2015.

We do have a few snook here. We've caught juveniles in seine nets (research) around the Cape Fear River also.

Thanks for the replies! Now I'm curious how they get here. Do their eggs float up with the gulf stream and randomly make their way into our inlets? I just don't see an adult snook surviving winter here in NC.

Sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to nature. I've seen Cubera Snapper at the tower, Bluefin tuna caught in Spooners Creek and Goliath Grouper caught at Masonboro. Crazy!

Interesting. I've always wondered if one of the few positives aspect of anthropogenic climate change would be some snook in GA, SC and NC. Caught one in Ormond Beach, FL and they are so fun and delicious.

I've heard of bonefish off topsail before.

I'm curious why all these fish are caught in nets, but none vial hook and line. I'd think a snook would take a hook and be in the same water as redfish.

I saw a GIANT cubera snapper on the camera at the tower not long ago.
Would love to hook into one!
