Can someone help me understand how much line to use to pull a planer? I have looked at the depth charts and see where the different sizes will run at different depths but it I am confused. Based on the information, the planer will sink @ 1 foot for every 2 foot of line out. I get that. But if I put a #1 sea striker planer out for spanish, the chart says @ 10 max depth. So do I only put it 20 behind the boat? What happens if I want it further back say 50? Will it max out at 10 deep or will the rule of diminishing return kick in and it actually run shallower?

Im asking as I want to pull 2 high speed planers on the cleats while mahi fishing instead of my downriggers. Just trying to get my tether lines rigged so I can pull 1 around 25-30 and the other 50 or so. Im thinking with those I will need 1 around 50-60 and the other around 80-90.

I'd recommend an inline cigar weight instead of planer 2

What size weights would be needed to get to these depths and how much leader would be needed behind the weight? I assuming these would be in line and not on a cleat.

Please define 'high speed'?

Anything over about 12-14 knots needs a lot of weight to keep the lure just under the surface 'high-speed' fishing for wahoo. When we high speed the heaviest weight is close to the boat and the lighter weights go further back.
