Farewell Midnight Wind. John McDow left us for the great fishing grounds above on November 14. I truly enjoyed the time I spent with him on the Midnight Wind and at Cape Fear Anglers meetings. Nine of will ever forget the night he did the program with the mason jar.
Thanks Midnight for the memories.

Oh no sorry to hear that. John gave me my first set of bottom numbers to fish out of Beaufort inlet. Caught a lot of Grouper on that spot. I have the waypoint Saved in my GPS as John’s spot. Sad to hear of his passing.

When I first started running charters many moons ago, John called me one night. We talked for hours.
Never got to hang out with him, but I ran into him on the water.
He will be missed for sure.

My condolences to his family. I never met nor spoke to him, but remember the offerings of guidance and his pictures to this forum. Who can forget the aspiring pictures he would include with the ever pristine white tee shirt? I can judge a painter by the amount of paint they allow on their clothes, with said, John appeared to be a world-class fisherman and believe he had a great life. RIP John

John was a good friend of mine we Wahoo fished together on his boat and mine. I’m so sad that he’s gone but glad he’s no longer suffering. I remember vividly the fishing club meeting Wayne reffered to. John was supposed to give an instructional presentation on winter Wahoo fishing.
Seems somebody brought a mason jar full of home made moon shine. John was offered a swig and never wanting to be rude he obliged. So again not wanting to be rude a few minuets later he took another swig. Another friend “Little Jimmy” looked at me and rolled his eyes and said “ Oh Boy here we go”. 🤪Well by the time John was supposed to offer his instructions on how to catch Wahoo he was gone. Moonshine swelled his tong and he couldn’t talk. We all sat politely till someone said “Maybe we should schedule this presentation for another meeting.😂
I think about him every day now that he’s gone. This was a man who was always the first to offer help or share his knowledge with anyone that asked for it. He would always tell you were he fished or what lure and color he caught his fish on if asked. None of that secret $hit ,go find your own fish from John McDow.
He was the first person to help me get dialed in when I moved here and I will always be thankful I had the pleasure of his company.

I'm sorry to hear of his passing. Hadn't seen a post from him in a long time, but I also fondly remember him as being a great sharer of information and an all around friendly guy.
My favorite memory was a post where he shared a photo of either 3 wahoos or 3 kings. I don't remember which. But I know that in that photo it was very evident one wasn't like the others (meaning he had 2 wahoos and a king or vice versa). A couple of us pointed this out to him, and he swore up and down that he saw those fish and damnit there were all the same thing and he knew the damn difference etc (and I'm sure he did). So we all just let it go because in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter and we respected him enough.
I'm glad to hear he's at peace and am thankful to have gotten to read some of his postings and knowledge.

Sorry to hear of John's passing. One of the most giving fishermen I've ever met. John was a legend back when this site was FryingPanTower.com and always will be.

Had the pleasure of meeting John a time or two as he spoke at different events our club put on. He was great to deal with on all occasions. As someone said earlier he was a great sharer of information. I think the biggest attendance we had for some of our standard meetings were when John or Jimmy Price were our guest speakers. RIP Midnight Wind.

Had the pleasure of fishing with him and Barry a couple times. Very knowledgeable and the nicest guy you would want to meet. John also volunteered for a few of our Military Appreciation Day events as well. Love ya and we will miss ya man.

When I first started fishing in NC John would give me great advice online, over the phone and even met me for lunch one time.
A very giving guy. My condolences to the family. He'll be missed by many.
