Does anybody launch from cedar island and go north to okracoke? I'm confident in my ability to navigate bogue and beafort inlet but always looking for new trip options. How well marked is that area and how hard is it for a 26 cc to get stuck up there?

We do. I have a camper at cedar island and run a 22 deep v to ocracoke several times a year. It’s plenty deep till you get near ocracoke island. You can always run the ferry channel but can cut thru short of the ferry and save 10 or 15 minutes.

Is Ocracoke up and running since hurricane? Fuel, hotel, etc? Haven’t been in 10-12 years.

i've got to think that's a heluva long run to get out Ocracoke inlet from Cedar Island. Just plotting on google maps it's *20* miles from the Cedar Island Ferry Dock until you're on the outside of Ocracoke Inlet. That's in backwater sound country and including an inlet run. I wouldn't assume you could run 20kts in there (but maybe), but even if you could - you're looking at an extra hour *each* way to the fishing grounds. And the yellowfins aren't *normally* caught at the rockpile or points south - they're usually over there on the east side out around the 280 rocks and towards the point. So plugging in to the drop-off due east from Ocracoke - that's another 50 miles. So - 70 miles each way. I honestly think you'd be better off trailering to Hatteras or Oregon Inlet.

10-4, Ive been trying to think of a logical plan from Harkers Island... I know the run would be 90 plus crossing the shoals up to the point out of beaufort inlet. It would probably be more logical to trailer to Hatteras or Oregon Inlet. its just a long ride from Harkers Island where the boat is kept. Thanks Blizo, I will rethink my plan lol.

Why not put your truck/trailer/boat on the Cedar Island Ferry to Ocracoke? My old boat blew a drive leaving Silver Lake about 20 years a go, and my marina sent a dually and a triple axle trailer over on the ferry, and brought back my 30 foot express, with 10 foot beam, on the CIF.

You'd have to plan ahead - but I'd also think the cedar island ferry would be the way to go. I don't know about if Ocracoke has a boat ramp or not. I'd assume they'd have to, but I'd want to confirm that.

We once did the run from Hatteras to MHC and it was a long day. We sailed due south, and once we got to good water, we trolled cedar plugs and daisy chains at like 8-10 kts so we could fish and move. I think it was like a 7 hour run or something from port to port. On the return, we left MHC in the morning, hauled ass up to hatteras, trailered the boat up, dropped it at storage and then had to drive back to Raleigh. We got no fishing done that day and I think we left MHC at 7 AM and got to Raleigh around 10 PM.

And being like 10-15 mile off core banks was eerie to me. Fishing off MHC, there are always boats around - plenty of them. Off Hatteras - it's much more sparse, but unless you're in some weird place, there's almost always 3-4 other boats you can see, even if 4-7 miles away. Off Core Banks - we probably went like 2 hours without seeing another boat anywhere near us. You get in trouble there - you better hope you have a good radio and you're not taking on water.

10-4, Thanks for this info Bilzo. I will start doing some planning and Research for the spring run lol. Ive fished no rurther north than Far East Tanker and its always much less pressured on the east side except for tournament weekends lol, so im sure that area is no mans land...
