This one's coming down to the wire. I think Saturday morning will be a good day to fish close to the hill...maybe chase some Spanish. It looked beautiful right up to today. Who knows what it will look like tomorrow or Friday.
I'm not trusting Sunday yet... if that wind blows offshore like it's supposed to, could be good really close in, but I wouldn't want to get out of the lee.

yeah that sat AM window looks to be shrinking. Considering it's a minimum 3½ hour drive each way for us to get down there, that ain't worth the run, for what looks like at best, a couple hours fishing before the blow comes. With the N wind, it will be generally calm against the beach, but woo I bet it's gonna be chilly.

Looks like another beautiful mid-week pattern. If only it weren't for this damned day job! Being a grown-up sucks sometimes.

If it stays like it is we will probably fish for kings out of New River Saturday and spanish off the beach on Sunday. Definitely won't venture much past a mile or two Sunday. With a NW wind the beach off Topsail should be perfect for spanish fishing.

My charters for the weekend all bailed. Scaredy cats. Actually, that sucks... but oh, well.
I'm gonna stay home and try to shoot a deer tomorrow. I'm watching Sunday afternoon for some Spanish and kings on the beach. I agree, that offshore wind should knock the swell back within the first mile or so...

it looked like saturday was actually a pretty nice day. The front pushed through here in N Chatham county around 4 PM and I'm guessing that was the event leading to the wind pickup and change, so it appears it was later than predicted. I worked on my fishing addiction by taking the canoe out to university lake this afternoon with the wife and we pulled one bass one the troll. I let her reel it in and it jumped a few times so that was good.

We ended up not going Saturday, but went out at first light on Sunday for Spanish. We crossed the bar right around first light and for the first two hours it was non-stop action and with the large fall Spanish. I have always heard and experienced this is best very early and that held true, it didn't shut down, but definitely slowed and the size of fish definitely decreased by about 8:00 am or maybe 8:30 am. Air was cold, but water was still 73-74. This was my 5 year olds first trip so it was awesome for him to be able to reel in the larger Spanish. We ended up keeping 9 of the biggest and threw back at least 20. Had grilled fish tacos last night. The 16 year old has 6 of them, so I think they were damn good.

That's awesome! The photo alone has got to be worth the fuel, time, and effort to get out there. Love watching those youngsters catch fish!
