I was coming home yesterday when I looked out in a field and saw a bald eagle standing over something dead in the field he looked to be almost 3 feet tall. It was a rare sight as I always look for deer, its the second one Ive seen in 2 years have you guys seen any ?

Having lived in Boone for many years I have seen quite a few up there and around the lakes in Tennessee. Since moving to CB a year ago have not seen any around here yet.

I usually see a pair of them in the winter near the south end of Leah Island. Never seen one other parts of the year for whatever reason. Magnificent creatures.

Saw one in Kinston last year while building duck blinds. Only one I've ever seen in the wild.

Got a pair that show up at my pond in JoCo during the spring. They do not stay all year. Also have a big Osprey that hangs around the pond most of the year. When the eagles show up, the osprey gets missing.

Saw one flying over the road in Pink Hill a few months ago while passing through.

One frequents our lake.....lots of people have taken pictures of him. I've been lucky enough to see him 3 times.
The one time I've been camping/boating at Jordan Lake.....there was LOTS of them.

They seem to be really thriving here in NC along with the osprey, usually near water. We have quite a few bald eagles on the haw river near saxapahaw, and i saw a really big one at the davidson co. landfill about a month ago perched atop a big pile of trash and dirt. (the attendant said it keeps the gulls in check at the landfill) I have also seen a bald eagle around the OKI area in the last year, first one i've seen there.
The osprey around the OKI area are doing really good, i have seen atleast 2 or 3 different pairs in the area. It is amazing to see them dive bomb on pogies or mullet in the surf/waterway.

I live pretty close to Jordan Lake and see them all the time. At one time, Jordan Lake had the highest concentration of breeding pairs east of the Mississippi. We also have a place out in Manteo and we have seen them around there only twice. You can't but get excited every time you see one.

They are magnificent birds but noisy in large groups. Went on a fishing trip in Alaska one year. Of course they are plentiful up there. Problem is it stays daylight until around 11pm up there in June and only dark for a couple hours. Those things cackle like Curly on the three stooges pretty constantly when feeding/fighting over the fish carcasses. Whup. whup,wup,wup wup wup wup! Made for some pretty sleepless nights. Got some great photos of them though.

I live in Cleveland county and fish a local lake near Shelby several times a week. There's a pair of them that have been living on it for several years. I saw them yesterday afternoon as a matter of fact. Pretty neat. I've also seen them on lake James and one on Norman once. They're huge birds no doubt.

I saw a juvenile a couple weeks ago flying around the Carolina Beach ramp. I also saw one a couple months ago on 133 near Orton Plantation. 2 in a couple months. Before that I saw one 4 years ago south of snows cut in the river. It's cool seeing them more often down this way.

We live in the Middlesound area near Anchors Bend Marina. I have seen Bald Eagles high up in the pine trees in our backyard along with plenty of Osprey all around the water near us...fresh and salt water. Very cool to see these birds of prey. A very good friend works security at Landfall and tells me that he sees Bald Eagles as well as Osprey all the time when patrolling that community.

Mr Tommy, I saw a pair of them out in a field close to stancils processing eating on a carcass last year after I took a deer up there. I’ve seen one in the last year over here in deep run close to tulls mill.
While I was living in Elizabeth city a saw a few while fishing on the pasquotank river.
They are certainly around!

You likely to see them for the first time in the winter as they migrate with the ducks because they definitely like duck meat. We use them as a marker for a starting point to scout when we see 4-6 hanging out in trees in the middle of the day while in Canada. There are almost always a concentration of ducks nearby when you find eagles. There are 4 that hang out on our impoundment year-round in southern Virginia. Had a golden slash a suzie one morning in Canada that almost landed on the hood. Picked her up and looked like she had been hit with a hatchet in the chest.

They were endangered nationwide when DDT was in use. Almost wiped out, but removed from ESL in 2007, after 40 years. There were some fly-bys, but no nests until WRC brought some pairs in in the early '80's. I think about 400 nesting pairs in NC at last count, IIRC.

There are some that have lived around Nash Johnson's pond in Rose Hill for years... Awesome creatures!

There are a couple at Hyco Lake as well. We see them quite a bit. One of them got to a bluebill I shot before we could get the boat out to it to pick it up (didn't have a dog at the time).

I saw one perched on an old dock piling on the upper reaches of the Shallotte River about three months ago.
On a related note, I swear I saw a flock of flamingos fly over my house last evening. They were pretty high up, but they looked pinkish and had black markings underneath. No alcohol was involved.

Saw one sitting in a tree at High Rock Lake I guess 15 years ago. Thought it was Batman at first it was so big.
