Yea because "White People" are the only people who own boats. |
Did I say that? But now you mentioned it, can't remember last time I saw a person of color raging at a boat ramp...certainly seen dozens of old white men flapping their gums about this or that....white people problems.
The reason for a Memorial Day holiday is to remember those who took a bullet to give you the freedom you enjoy, not a day off for your fishing trip. So why don't you tough guys whose biggest problem is having to wait 45 minutes to get your $100,000 boat out of the water chew on that a minute while you wait patiently for the guy in front of you who has just as much right to use the boat ramp as you do. That guy in front of you may have given a limb or a child so you could have that freedom. Offer him a hand if you are in such a damn hurry.
Or use some common sense and stay off the water on a holiday weekend, because you know it will be crowded. I believe you'd get your ass kicked around here were you to push your way to the front of the line as the original poster described.

Yeah we were at that ramp around 3pm last saturday and experienced the holiday chaos too. It is usually just my wife and I launching the boat and we have a pretty good system down where she backs me in and I pull the boat back from the dock while she parks. Then I pull up and she jumps on the boat and away we go without ever tying up or sitting around at the dock. But I was once a new boater and didn't have an extra hand to launch so I try to be understanding of those around me. You never know what their experience level is and I wouldn't want to discourage them or rush them and cause an accident if they are new to boating.

Let me tell you something bud. I know the reason for memorial day. Let me just say, I had a grandpa, and uncle who died fighting for this country. My brother lost from his right knee down serving his country. MY BROTHER, who lost half his leg serving this country in the USMC was with me along with his family as we CELEBRATE EVERY YEAR by making that day all about him. Not about me, not about fishing. Fishing is how he chooses to spend it. My boat is far from anything fancy and is probably the worst looking and cheapest on this site. But it is sea worthy and gets me home every time. There is a difference in not knowing what your doing, being a rookie, being alone, or being disabled. I'm talking about sheer disrespect and disregard of others. Which is what was happening at the ramp this day. So before you go shooting your mouth off trying to say I was being an ass by "pushing my way to the front" and not considering the real reason for this day, why don't you chew on that my friend. I'm more than happy to help anyone who needs it and I'm about as patient as they come but I will not tolerate sheer disrespect. So before you go shooting off that mouth and making assumptions about others and their agendas, get a fact check first. As you said, " I believe you'd get your ass kicked around here for that"
By the way, since you seem to be so patriotic, and worried about honoring troops, are you here at mad or volunteer to take troops out fishing for the day?????

On the other hand, a beach chair, six pack and sunscreen at the ramp and you can sit and watch one of the best comedy skits on the coast! |
Do it all the time a Cape Point Marina. Best part of the day.

I go on fishing forum(s) to make friends, not enemies. I feel MOST of us try to do the same.

For those of you who want to fish in the Morehead City area during a holiday, put in at the little marina behind Core Creek motel just off Hwy 101. If you're a guest at the motel, launching is free. Otherwise it is 15$--small price to pay inn order to help keep the day pleasant. About 5 miles down the waterway to Radio Island...

What about the four guys with one boat and one truck and only one can drive the boat and he's the only one out of the group who can back the trailer.
I thought you couldn't get your man card without being able to back a trailer. |
Unfortunately this is the situation I find myself in sometimes. If I can, I tie off on one the docks that are perpendicular to the ramp, but some ramps I do not have a choice (Little River) but to leave the boat, and go grab my truck. I fish sometimes with some young people that cannot back the trailer or drive the boat.
What do others do when they fish solo or do not have anyone capable of backing in or driving the boat?

I am very understanding in the situations such as you described. I get it. Trust me, I have been there and still do that on occasion. Although this was not the case on this day. This day was pure disregard for others.
However, to answer your question, this is what I do when I am alone and have nobody to help back the truck or back the boat...
At every wildlife access ramp I have put in on at lakes or at the wildlife ramp from the original post which I use 100% of the time, there is enough room to park 2 boats on the same side of the dock per ramp. If I have no help and have to tie off, I will tie up as far back as possible so others can still put their boats in and take them out even with mine sitting there.
If there is room tie off as far back as possible so others can still use the ramp. Don't tie off so close to the ramp you could back the trailer under the boat. If the ramp you use doesn't have enough room, so be it. We all have been there and will continue to go there as long as we fish. We know the difference in pure disrespect and disregard for others, as opposed to being alone, not having help etc. One is very understandable and I'm sure nobody has a problem with it, the other however....is a good way to come back to a sunken boat lol
