So a couple weeks ago I finally purchased my first offshore boat after going a few times with a good friend of mine. Beyond excited to get it out and do some fishing. The boat is a 2006 Key West 268CC with twin Yamaha 150 4strokes. Anyone have any experience running or being on one? Any tips or tricks to know? I appreciate all the help.

Find an open area and practice. See what the boat will do steering with just the wheel, just the motors and a combination of both.

Thanks everyone. It's my first Key West and it did good on the sea trial so beyond ready to get out and get some blood on the decks. Going to run it as much as I can before the first trip to get used to it. Always heard you could steering with just the motors so want to practice using just the motors some.

Exactly what he said. Being in Greensboro you have easy access to several lakes that are great places for this practice since they're usually pretty much flat and there's no current to deal with so you get a great idea of exactly how the boat itself handles. Basically you can get acquainted with it one step at a time, boat first, then boat with big water rather than all of it at the same time.

Looks like we need a Key West fishing event. How about Harkers Island NC. I know a guy there

Thanks everyone. Normally fish out of southport, but the boat is trailered so pretty open. Been out of morehead and southport mainly.
Kicker, I see your in Walnut Cove, I live right outside of Stokesdale.

beautiful boat!
I come down to Oak island a lot. If you ever need a fishing buddy let me know.
My boat has a dead engine right now. Hopefully after may I will be up and running.
My only input would be to always try and have a buddy boat to go out with, or fish the same area.
and sea tow !
its about $150 a year
I've had to be towed twice - not far at all - but would have been over $500 each time
money well spent.

The best advise I can give is to hire a local Captain to go with you on YOUR boat and show you how to do it. It will be the best $200 you will spend in the offshore fishing game.

Thank you everyone for the kind words.
Midnight, she has full curtains and full wings just weren't on in the picture.
Capt. Dave, I plan on doing that come this summer. Any recommendations around the Oak Island/southport area on captains that will do that?

NC, Capt Dave is right. You'll spend hundreds if not thousands in the first year......heading in the wrong direction.
My 2 cents......buy what you need first.......instead of saying I'll get this now and change later.............you will find that "later" comes pretty quick and what you thought you could get by with for now, just isn't working for you.
I just saved you a lot of money....lol!
