Hammertime, you are correct! I am one whom needs to read it hourly. As John the Baptist said;
John 3:24 (This was before John was put in prison.) (This I'm adding for those who do not know. This was also before he was beheaded, and he never lost Trust in Jesus Christ!) 25 An argument developed between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing. 26 They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan—the one you testified about—look, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him.” 27 To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. 28 You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but am sent ahead of him.’ 29 The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. 30 He must become greater; I must become less.”
I pray everyday that I become less and less, because that is where I found true happiness, peace, and contentment. Its all because of HE not me!

1 John 2:1-2
1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

Jesus suffered the full extent of God's judgement, all that is left for me/you is acceptance! Borrowed from J D Greear.

JOHN 3:27 To this John replied, “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven. 28 You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Messiah but I am sent ahead of him.’ 29 The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete. 30 He must become greater; I must become less.”[h]
27 “A person can receive only what is given them from heaven.
So true, I am so glad I now understand more about what God's word is trying to tell me. There is no earthly material that will suffice living in the God's Grace.
28 I am not the Messiah
This is such a great example of what God will put upon you when you indulge in the Light of the World (Jesus Christ).
This morning when I was sending some KNEEMAILS up, and I was in the portion of my prayers, where I first glorify God, I was thanking him for being the "Great I AM". I told him that I was so glad that I realize now that "I AM NOT".
In my two plus years of doing my best at walking the walk, I have discovered in the last year that ME My and I, was the biggest obstacle standing in the way of the total Gift (peace, & joy) God has for us. Oh, I didn't mention Eternal Life! Well that is no longer an issue in my life. We fishermen always say that; "just getting out on the water is enough, and if we catch a fish its a bonus!"
Here is the way I feel about it; "When I decided to join the army of God, and to Trust and Believe, and I mean "Repentively Believe from the heart" and not just say a bunch of words. I got what I need to endure the trials of the earthly things, ETERNAL LIFE IS JUST A BONUS! Thank you Jesus!!!
Prayers to all.
PS; We are so use to giving someone a material thing when they need help. I so wish people I could reach in my pocket and give you what Jesus Christ gave me. I am sorry but, you will have to answer the one knocking at your door.
Rev 3:20 Here I AM, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and THEY with me. TYJ[/b][/u]

Beautifully said Miles, thank you for sharing those truths!
Yesterday morning I read several verses in Hebrews that spoke exactly to what you said --
Hebrews 4:15-16 "this High Priest of ours (Jesus) understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testing we do, yet He did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most".
So much of my life I believed that God spent his days looking down on me, clipboard in hand, just waiting for each of my screw ups to happen so He could place yet another check mark beside my name. I knew nothing about grace or mercy, never truly understood WHY Jesus came to this earth. But as John said in 3:17 "God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him".
Jesus wasn't standing around waiting to drop the hammer on me for my sins. He was standing by, patiently waiting for me to open the door, never wavering in His love for me or in His desire for me to join Him at His table. No matter what I did, no matter the number of times I screwed up, He never took a step back, He never turned away. He was always there offering His grace and mercy, all I had to do was open my heart to Him, let go of my arrogant and misguided reliance on my own abilities and accept His Gift.
Do I still screw up? Heck yes!! Do I still struggle with sin?? Every single day!! Is my life pain free & problem free?? Ha, not by a long shot .... But now I live each day knowing that WHEN I stumble or WHEN trouble comes ( not if ... ) my Savior gives me grace, not condemnation. My Savior extends mercy, not punishment. My Savior walks with me through the dark days, encouraging me to keep going, allowing me to see His purpose and testify to His glory in every situation when before all I would see was my failures.
I too wish I could give everyone the joy and peace Jesus has given me. The great news of The Gospel is that it's yours for the asking!! All you have to do is open the door, invite Him in and He'll do the rest!!

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

I have had some Christians that have had questions about, why do the non-believers seem to have so much more than they. Of course they are looking on earthly material things, that are here today and gone tomorrow. Two of many things are happening here. One of the many is; those living in the dark, work night and day as I did, to be #1 in what their sport is in life. Along with that I also had to have the attire (material bling) to go along with my kingship. To impress people that could care less, and they to (like I) were/are running their self ragged to be the grand pooh-bah. Little advise; we'll find rest in what Jesus Christ did for us. It is so peaceful being out of the rat race.
Number two; The flip side is (as I) in my early walk, I did not understand God as well as I now do. Man has it been a walk and a half. This verse helped me understand life for ALL here on earth,
Matthew 5:45
Be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Though I got this early on I didn't know what its called in two words or less. For the unjust (me up to 2 1/2 years ago) it is Common Grace! It is what I received from OUR Savior for my first 58 years of life, which allowed me to live as if I were the grand pooh-bah, enjoying His Sunny days. When we are reborn, we received Spiritual Grace, and as a bonus we still get to enjoy the Common Grace!
Why is this? Because a sinless man came to this earth 2,000 plus years ago and took the sins of the past, the present, and future, and paid the price of them (paid our debt). Jesus Christ our Lord, our advocate/lawyer/defense attorney before God, is why we now have freewill/choice to chose Common, or Spiritual Grace.
Footnote; I don't like to lead people in choosing by fear, I'd rather use what Jesus uses "LOVE". I do need to take one more step in explaining the downsides to these.
Spiritual Grace = Everlasting
Common Grace = Ends with your last breath, or when Jesus returns for HIS PEOPLE, the owners of Spiritual Grace.
If anyone ever needs a struggling sinner to talk to, be it by phone or visit, please contact me.
May God continue to Bless us ALL/Both! In Jesus name I pray. Amen

One of my favorite songs. A message that on the surface just sounds too simplistic, too easy, can't possibly be true. I mean, seriously, is this for real? How can any reasonable, rationale, intelligent person possibly believe this stuff?? All I have to do is ask and God will forgive me?? Really?? No matter what I've done?? I'm supposed to believe He's just sitting there waiting for me to ask?? Please, give me a break .....
I'm sorry to say that was my exact thinking for much of my life. I thought it was all nonsense. How in the world could such a thing possibly work? What made sense to me was this -- I didn't follow all the rules all the time and therefore I was O-U-T. I never understood the truth of the Gospel until several years ago, when God showed me in a very real, very powerful and very personal way that it's not about me. That it's never been about ME. It's about Jesus and what He did on the cross for me.
So, come to the Alter. His arms are open wide. Come today, there's no reason to wait. The precious blood of Jesus Christ bought forgiveness for you and for me.
I hope this song speaks to your heart as much as it does mine

"For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God" Ephesians 2:8
As is so often the case, I find myself once again caught up in the hustle & bustle of the season and beginning to lose sight of The Reason. The greatest gift I will ever receive was given to me over 2000 years ago when God sent his only Son into our world. Jesus came so that I could be saved and so that you could be saved. God's gift of grace and forgiveness is available to everyone. His gift is always the perfect size, the perfect color, the perfect fit & finish, comes with a lifetime guarantee and never needs to be exchanged or returned. I pray it is a gift we will all open, not only on Christmas morning but each and every day of the year.
Merry Christmas to all and God's abundant blessings on you and your family in the New Year!

Jesus does not argue our worthiness, HE argues HIS substitution. We are not worthy to be forgiven, but He is worthy to forgive us!

We should be so thankful for New days. Sometimes we think a moment when people ask us, "what's new today"? When we are down, we are apt to answer "same crap, different day". As AFC and those in Christ, we should never have to hesitate on our response. Absolutely everything is new each and every day. A new day that will never happen again. For today, there will be new insights from God, new encounters, new opportunities for us to share the love of Christ, new service opportunities, and new blessings. One of the most important is the opportunity to receive another day of HIS Mercies. The opportunity to renew our relationships with our neighbors. Absolutely everything is new, because every day brings something new and gives us the chance to experience and share God's love in new ways.
Lamentations 3:22-23 NRSV
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.
May God continue to bless you all, for his sun shines on the just and the unjust.[/b]
