Any economical recommendations for an epirb? Ocean Signal, SeaSafe, ACR, Globafix? Even seen a company called KTI which are in the $200 dollar range.

A cat II is perfectly fine. Hydrostatic is only good if nothing obstructs is upon release and allows it to reach the surface. If it does get to the surface and no one can get to it well that's the same as not having one. Here's a link to gps store. They are local to NC, https://www.thegpsstore.com/ACR-EPIRBs-C702.aspx

I'd look at the first or second one. You can check other locations and get them cheaper at times. Also Check the acr website and look for the promotions. Sometimes you can get even more money back or a goodie bag with the purchase of certain products

get the acr with the gps, I bet there has never been a person in trouble offshore that would scoff at the price of an epirb or raft if somebody would produce one that instant

I ended up replacing mine with an ACR Resqlink+ PLB this year.
They all use the same transmit frequency now, and it has the homing beacon as well. The only real differences I could find are these-
1. An EPIRB transmits for 48 hours, PLB 24 hours
2. EPIRB is registered to a boat, while a PLB is registered to a person. My PLB stays in my ditch bag, no matter what boat I am on.

Also, the resqlink+ PLB from ACR offers a "Test" button. For $59 a year, you can push that button and 5 people will get a text saying "I'm ok" along with your GPS coordinates. $270ish

Picked up an ACR Aqualink View (P/N 2884) for $350 and free shipping this week.
They are running their summer promotion right now (5/1 - 7/5)

That unit is buoyant, waterproof, has GPS, integrated screen for testing GPS functionality/accuracy, and a self-test feature without having to call NOAA every time you test. They claim a 30hr battery life at -4* F

Rebate was $100 back so effectively it was the same price as the cheaper non-waterproof resqlink+. (also, there's a $50 on the ResqLink+...So $200 till 7/5)

Got a PLB since we already have an e-pirb registered to our boat, I fish on other boats quite a bit and like to have a personal device, and with all the backcountry hunting/fishing I do, I like knowing I have an "Oh Sh*t" button if I snap my leg in half in a boulder field packing a deer out of the mountains or get hit by a snake at the bottom of the Gorge smallmouthing in the summer...

Here's link to rebate form.
