Mixed layer and Surface boundary

What is the difference in mixed layer depth and Surface boundary thickness? I have watched videos but did hear anything on surface boundary thickness.

Also curious about this. Most of the time there isn't much break in MLD off oak island but there are breaks/rips in surface boundary thickness.
