Below you will find two links to two different media sources providing information on the State of LA no longer participating in the NMFS MRIP data program and the State of FL going non compliant with the Feds and setting a fall season for recreational red snapper. All this is due to the constant and historical problems with the NMFS rec data program. This is not eye opening news to Congress, NOAA, the States, and anglers as the rec data program has always had problems in providing reliable and timely rec data.

These problems have a direct and severe impact on the ability of anglers to access our marine resources, negative social and economic impacts on individuals and local fishing communities, and any confidence at all on the responsibility and ability of the NOAA/NMFS to properly manage our marine resources. As States move to take over fisheries management off their coasts and the NOAA/NMFS continues their ever increasing mismanagement of fisheries chaos in the angling world increases.

Many of us have begged and pleaded for many years to have someone address these issues. Congress is supposed to be the entity with the power to control governmental agencies when it is clear such agencies are out of control and incapable of serving the American public as they are tasks to do. Apparently the NOAA/NMFS is immune to such oversight and control as many hearings and directions have been provided to the agency yet they continue operate with impunity. It is well past time to address these problems, which are not limited to the Gulf red snapper fishery, that affect the state of our economy, social welfare, and recreational angling opportunities. Again, we beg and plead for someone, anyone to address this severe problem.
